Welcome to Pianopedia.
We're just getting started with this. If you have experience with Mediawiki, and an interest in pianos, please let us know. You could be a huge help with getting Pianopedia off the ground. Sethile
Pianopedia was started in August, 2008 by members of the Piano Technicians Guild [1] as an on line source of technical information about the piano. We hope this will develop into a comprehensive resource of techniques pertaining to servicing pianos. Our goal is to foster an open exchange of opinions, and to encourage a diversity of viewpoints.
There is a great deal of material in the archives of Pianotech and CAUT (College and University Technicians) list serves. That material is somewhat difficult to search, and any attached files that were posted to those lists were not archived. We hope to make it possible to "harvest" some of those materials and post them in a more easily accessible format. That activity can be found in the "Archive Project."
It is possible that this may also develop into a more general resource about the piano, filled with historical and other data, as well as graphics and links to other media. We welcome that sort of contribution as well.
The Pianopedia project is open source--anyone with knowledge and interest is invited to contribute material related to pianos. We expect the contributions will be a mix of open-source collaboration, single source articles, and copyrighted materials, some of which have been published elsewhere and used by permission.
The ultimate destiny of Pianopedia will be decided by its contributors. Please join us!
Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software or the help page being developed specifically for Pianopedia.
